OpenOffice and read-only document - where is the mismatch?

Figure out why OpenOffice is so casual with any of the office document including its own children (open office format). One is certain to face this weird behavior once in a lifetime, while using application.

Coming to point, the issue is when opening a document in OpenOffice Writer it opens up in read-only mode, even though it wasn't saved so when last used. How to make it editable, when you know MS-Word does so and there is no such attribute which should render the document read-only. It turns out that openoffice attaches such attributes, by default, to at least one of the feature TOC (yes Table of Content). It also adds this attribute, if you define your document as a combination of multiple sections.

How to get rid of it?

1) If you have TOC in your document, most probably it is the culprit. Goto Insert -> Indexes and Tables -> Indexes and Tables. Unset the checkbox which says Protected against manual changes. And you are done.

2) Oh not yet, ok let's play another trick. Goto Insert -> Section and select an appropriate section that you want to make editable. Uncheck Protect box under Write protection tab. And you are done.

3) Not yet, don't tell me. Guess what OpenOffice just shot more food for brain. Consume it or switch to MS-Office.
